My parents just finished the divorce, and my dad has his own house and everything, even a new girl friend! I thought that the divorce would mean no more fighting, but now the only difference is that they’re yelling over the phone. What should i do to stop them fighting?

My mum came into my room and told me that she was looking for an apartment and that she wanted a lawyer. she said that i was mature enough to hear it and that i could handle it. i can but i feel like my insides are rippng apart. She think my dad is lazy and has bad spending habits. and its a bit more. but i want to know if it is worth trying to stop it. or is it just stupid and should i just let my parents handle it?

Your mom is not happy, I would let her do as she pleases and stay out of it. Sure,. you can tell her your opinion, but obviously she is going to do what she wants regardless.

We tend to hear the complaining. Maybe people bond with each other, for a brief moment, when they’re commiserating about their spouses, exes, boyfriends or girlfriends . . .or even stereotyping an entire gender of people.

But, why should they have all the press? There are many good marriages out there. There are so many life partnerships, within marriage and outside of it, that enhance the quality of life for each person, big-time. Some of them seem to function with a natural smoothness, while others require intentionality and hard work. But, they’re good. Very good.

When I read a post on Flickr saying, "He loves me so much," or "My wife means the world to me," I want to applaud. Thank you for announcing that!

Can we present to each other, including those who have been genuinely hurt, and are truly trapped in life-sapping situations, that the good stuff is attainable, that there are many models of good relationships, and that there is joy to be found? Not in a way that says, "I have it and you don’t," but in a way that replaces the lamenting we ordinarily hear, and that simply gives thanks?

That’s not idealistic. I witness wonderful relationships constantly.

Can those of us in happy marriages give that gift to the world?

You need to let your ex know that you are totally fine with the break up and that you actually think this is the best for both of you. You want to be on the same side as your ex, you want to agree with your ex, not argue.

2. Make yourself “unavailable” for your ex – the truth is we want what we can not have. Do not call, visit or text your ex and he/she will start to think about you. Wondering what you are up to, if you are over the relationship, if you are maybe seeing somebody else… If he/she contacts you be nice but short, tell your ex that you will get back with him/her. So if what you are doing right now, to try to win your ex back, working for you fine stick with that but if not, fallow the above steps and I promise you will get a great “start” to getting your ex back.
