Happy Marriages

We tend to hear the complaining. Maybe people bond with each other, for a brief moment, when they’re commiserating about their spouses, exes, boyfriends or girlfriends . . .or even stereotyping an entire gender of people.
But, why should they have all the press? There are many good marriages out there. There are so many life partnerships, within marriage and outside of it, that enhance the quality of life for each person, big-time. Some of them seem to function with a natural smoothness, while others require intentionality and hard work. But, they’re good. Very good.
When I read a post on Flickr saying, "He loves me so much," or "My wife means the world to me," I want to applaud. Thank you for announcing that!
Can we present to each other, including those who have been genuinely hurt, and are truly trapped in life-sapping situations, that the good stuff is attainable, that there are many models of good relationships, and that there is joy to be found? Not in a way that says, "I have it and you don’t," but in a way that replaces the lamenting we ordinarily hear, and that simply gives thanks?
That’s not idealistic. I witness wonderful relationships constantly.
Can those of us in happy marriages give that gift to the world?
